Job summary

The University of Iowa's Department of Central Sterilizing Services seeks a full-time Central Service Technician for 2nd shift (3:00 PM–11:30 PM) with on-call weekends at the Integrated Services Center in Coralville or Turn Center in Iowa City. This role includes decontamination, sterilization, packaging, and inventory duties.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent with courses in the physical and natural sciences and mathematics.
• One year experience in a hospital-related field that would provide a background in medical environment or sterile technique as it applies to medical supplies and equipment.

Responsibilities

• Decontaminates, inspects, cleans, sorts, disassembles and reassembles complex surgical instrument and implant trays, operates endoscope washers, washers, and decontaminators.
• Performs microbicidal processes and safety controls; handles high volumes of complex instruments with varied patterns.
• Performs all aspects of sterilization, packaging inspection, and documentation of items processed.
• Assembles instrument trays and documents missing items within required time frames.
• Maintains inventory for supplies and implants; monitors stock levels and uses computer software to restock.
• Performs biological monitoring of sterilizers and preventative maintenance on equipment.
• Participates in in-service programs and other duties as assigned.
• Must be able to move 25 lbs, push/pull, and perform repetitive motions.
