Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking a Custodian for the 2nd & 3rd Shift Custodial Services to maintain cleanliness and sanitation across campus buildings. Responsibilities include cleaning high-touch surfaces, restrooms, classrooms, stairwells, and more while handling supplies and reporting maintenance issues.

Position is designated Emergency Personnel; duties include emergency response, floor care, and operation of cleaning equipment.

Qualifications

• Must be able to read, understand, and follow instructions and safely use cleaning chemicals and dispensing systems.
• Must be able to walk and stand for long periods; climb stairs; safely move or handle up to 35 lbs.; bend, stoop, reach, push/pull, and twist.
• Must be able to operate electrically powered and manual cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.
• Must be willing to learn to use heavy floor care equipment.
• Must be able to work independently without close supervision.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Clean and disinfect high-touch surfaces, restrooms, corridors, classrooms, stairs, and elevators.
• Perform floor and window maintenance and operate powered cleaning equipment.
• Handle trash, recycling, and replenish supplies; report equipment and building maintenance issues.
• Assist with emergency cleanup and blood-borne pathogen procedures as needed.
