Job summary

Virginia Tech is seeking a Custodial Worker to provide clean, sanitary, and safe environments across assigned facilities in Blacksburg. You will perform floor maintenance, dusting, trash removal, and assist with event preparation, reporting equipment needs and any unsafe conditions.

This Emergency Personnel role requires flexibility to report during emergencies, with regular hours Monday through Friday and potential variations to meet campus needs; criminal conviction check is required.

Qualifications

• Ability to comprehend and follow instructions, and properly use or learn to use cleaning chemicals and agents, including dilution and dispensing systems.
• Walk and stand extensively; climb stairs; safely move or handle up to 35 lbs.
• Bend, stoop, reach (including reaching above the head to dust), push/pull, perform repetitive motion, twist, and shovel snow.
• Operate cleaning equipment safely and efficiently (electrically powered and manual).
• Learn the use of heavy floor care equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide cleaning services to maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment in assigned facilities.
• Floor maintenance, dusting, trash removal, and snow/ice removal from entrances and sidewalks.
• Report needed equipment and building repairs and any unsafe or unusual situations.
• Care and handling of custodial supplies, equipment and assigned keys; assist with event preparation as needed.
