Job summary

The International House at UC Berkeley is seeking a part-time Cafe Shift Assistant for Edmonds Café in Berkeley, CA. You will deliver high-quality customer service, prepare beverages and food, operate the POS, and help train student workers during evening shifts (3-7 pm PST).

The role emphasizes safety, cleanliness, and adherence to health standards while supporting opening/closing duties. Ideal candidates bring cafe/restaurant experience, reliability, and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• Prior cafe/restaurant experience.
• Experience supervising or mentoring student workers.
• Reliable attendance and punctuality.
• Access to reliable transportation.
• RBS server certification is ideal, not required.
• Strong customer service, interpersonal communication and multitasking.
• Experience with guest service standards, POS systems and inventory processes.

Responsibilities

• Deliver excellent customer service by engaging with guests and responding to customer needs.
• Operate the POS system, follow drink recipes, and prepare beverages and menu items including beer and wine.
• Maintain cleanliness of the café, service areas and workstations, including closing duties.
• Follow Edmonds Café policies, safety and security standards, and health regulations.
• Assist with opening/closing duties and train student workers on shift.
• Support inventory counts, receiving deliveries, and FIFO inventory practices.
