Job summary

The Garlands in Barrington, IL is seeking an Activity Assistant to join our team. The role focuses on planning and implementing engaging activity programs for residents, including recreation, outings, and one-on-one interactions.

The position requires experience with Alzheimer’s and Dementia in a long-term care setting, solid communication skills, and a compassionate, patient manner. Training in dementia care is required within the first year of hire.

Qualifications

• Experience working with Alzheimer’s & Dementia in assisted living or long term care environment.
• Proven customer service skills.
• Compassion, patience and understanding.
• Effective communication skills.
• Must complete 16 hours of Dementia Training within 1 year of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, developing, organizing, and implementing the activity programs at The Garlands of Barrington.
• Provide recreation activities: reality orientation, current events, discussion groups, sensory stimulation, cultural activities, special entertainment, outings, special events and one-on-one visits.
• Encourage residents to participate in programming by inviting them personally.
• Create an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, and a calm environment throughout the facility.
• Coordinate activities with other departments and modify program content as necessary.
• Distribute monthly activity newsletter and answer questions pertaining to it.
• Serve on committees and attend tours for prospective families and residents.
• Assist with move-ins as assigned by the Administrator.
