Job summary

General Motors is seeking a Battery & Propulsion HIL Engineer in a hybrid role reporting to Milford, MI, 3-4 days weekly. You will design and maintain hardware-in-the-loop environments for embedded controllers and calibrations across battery, electrification, engine, and powertrain domains.

You’ll create simulation models, design HIL benches, and collaborate with software, calibration, and validation teams to accelerate development and validation cycles in a fast-paced, innovative setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechatronics, Electrical, Software or Computer).
• 4+ years of experience in design of models with controls theory and with real time simulation.
• 4+ years of experience in HIL design, troubleshooting and integration.
• 2+ years of experience in automotive engineering.
• 1+ years of experience in applying DFSS tools and methodologies to solve problems.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with software development, calibration, and validation stakeholders to identify solutions to customer needs.
• Create and maintain simulation models (plant, sensors/actuators, serial data communication, controller models) for test environments.
• Design HIL benches, including harness design, power requirements, and integration of key ECUs; understanding ISO SPI, CAN tools, and INCA.
• Apply Agile principles that support DFSS tools and Lean Manufacturing in HIL contexts.
• Root-cause issues with test environment users and resolve test execution problems.
• Plan, communicate, and coordinate test environment strategy and model/hardware rollouts.
• Support HIL benches and automated tools.
• Collaborate to share models and assets across test environments.
