Job summary

CITY OF PITTSBURG seeks a legal research assistant to support the Ethics Hearing Board Executive Director. The role involves researching simple to moderately complex ethics and conflicts of interest matters and assisting with advisory and enforcement cases.

You will analyze cases, interpret laws, and prepare reports while coordinating with city personnel and external agencies. This position emphasizes drafting rules, policies, and training materials for city employees and officials.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited law school or have graduated with a law degree.
• Ability to research simple to moderately complex legal matters related to ethics and conflicts of interest.

Responsibilities

• Conducts simple to moderately complex legal research in advisory and enforcement cases.
• Analyzes and makes judgments about assigned cases; interprets existing laws and regulations.
• Informs supervisor of results of legal research.
• Meets with City personnel, officials, and state and/or federal agencies on assigned legal research assignments.
• Drafts rules, regulations, policies and procedures to be proposed or implemented by City Departments; monitors full implementation of approved rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Prepares accurate reports, records, correspondence, etc.
• Creates ethics handbook and training materials for City employees, officials, candidates, vendors, and others subject to the Ethics Hearing Board’s jurisdiction.
• Performs other related tasks and duties as assigned or required.
