Job summary

The Washington State Bar Association (WSBA) is seeking an Investigator for the Office of Disciplinary Counsel to conduct investigations into potential ethical misconduct by legal professionals. The role requires planning investigations, interviewing witnesses, and preparing detailed reports for review by disciplinary counsel.

The position is hybrid within Washington State, full-time and non-exempt, with responsibilities including collaboration with counsel and timely case progression.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
• Three years of experience investigating, practicing law, or engaging in similar work.
• Experience with the legal system and analyzing complex factual and legal issues.
• Strong written and oral communication to a variety of audiences.

Responsibilities

• Performs detailed investigations to determine if legal professionals have engaged in ethical misconduct.
• Conducts interviews, researches and obtains public records, reviews and analyzes records, prepares timelines and visuals.
• Collaborates with disciplinary counsel, Investigative Manager and team to progress investigations.
• Obtains files and other evidence; drafts investigative requests and subpoenas; reviews and analyzes records.
• Addresses roadblocks by contacting involved individuals and coordinating with the Office of Disciplinary Counsel.
• Drafts clear, complete and well-organized reports and presents information clearly.
• Performs other duties, including hearing preparation and testifying as requested.
