Job Description

Work at Home Bilingual Estonian - English Phone Interpreter

Location: Work at Home position in United States

Pay: $1.00 - $1.15 per minute, depending on the time of day and interpretation level as defined by LanguageLine Solutions.

Position Overview:

The Estonian Telephone Interpreter handles on-demand calls, rendering the meaning of conversations between Estonian and English speakers across various industries such as Healthcare, Government, Insurance, Financial, Utilities, Travel & Hospitality, General Business, Law Enforcement, Court, and 911.

The interpreter processes information quickly, concisely, and recognizes cultural differences. Professionalism, courtesy, appropriate terminology, and understanding of industry procedures are essential. The sessions may involve simple or complex, technical or non-technical subjects.

This role involves verbal interpretation only; written translation is not part of the job. Translators and linguists are encouraged to apply.

This is a remote position. The Interpreter works from home. A quiet and secure environment is essential.

Essential Job Functions

• Respond promptly and professionally to interpreting sessions.
• Render accurate concepts and meanings, adhering to interpretation protocols.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation and politeness.
• Maintain professionalism and composure, especially in emergency or emotional situations.
• Be punctual and available during work hours.
• Follow client instructions and protocols, avoiding interaction with LEP without permission.
• Understand industry-specific terminology and protocols.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
• Remain on calls for extended periods if necessary, managing stressful or emotional calls.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Estonian and English, with cultural competence.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
• Ability to stay neutral and objective, even with sensitive topics.
• Experience or education in language-related fields preferred.
• Adaptability to technology enhancements.
• Must be at least 18, legally authorized to work in the U.S., with appropriate work authorization.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Ability to read and write in requested languages is highly preferred.

Additional Requirements: A post-offer, pre-employment background check and/or drug screen may be required based on location.

Technical Requirements

• Dedicated device (computer, tablet, or smartphone) with internet access (minimum speeds: 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload).
• Quiet workspace free from background noise.
• Restricted brands: Kaspersky, Huawei.

Physical Requirements

• Operate a keyboard and mouse, remain stationary at a computer.
• Type or write as needed.
• Lift up to 26 lbs.
• May be exposed to moderate noise levels.
