Job Description

Work at Home Bilingual Masalit-English Phone Interpreter

Location: Remote within the United States.

Pay: $1.25 - $1.40 per minute, depending on the time of day and interpretation level.

Position Overview:

The Masalit Telephone Interpreter handles on-demand calls, conveying the meaning between Masalit and English speakers. You will facilitate communication across industries such as healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel & hospitality, general business, law enforcement, court, and 911.

You will process information quickly, recognize cultural sensitivities, and maintain professionalism and courtesy. The role involves interpreting a range of topics, from simple to complex, technical to non-technical.

This position does not involve written translation; verbal interpretation is required. Translators and other linguists are encouraged to apply.

This is a remote position. You must ensure a quiet, secure environment at home.

Essential Job Functions

  • Promptly respond to interpreting sessions, maintaining professionalism.
  • Accurately render concepts and meanings, following interpretation protocols.
  • Speak clearly, with proper pronunciation and polite expressions.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor at all times.
  • Remain calm in stressful or emotional situations, especially during emergency calls.
  • Be punctual and available during work hours.
  • Follow client instructions and protocols, avoiding unauthorized interaction with LEP individuals.
  • Understand industry-specific terminology and protocols.
  • Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
  • Handle emotionally charged calls and high volumes as needed, maintaining service quality.

Qualifications

  • Fluency in Masalit and English, with cultural competency.
  • Ability to assess regional and accent differences.
  • Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
  • Ability to stay neutral and objective, even with sensitive topics.
  • Experience in language-related fields preferred.
  • Adaptability to technological enhancements.
  • Must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the US.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to read and write in requested languages (highly preferred).

Additional Requirements

Post-offer background checks and drug screening may be required based on location.

Technical Requirements:

  • Dedicated device (PC, tablet, or smartphone).
  • High-speed internet (minimum speeds specified).
  • Quiet workspace free from distractions.

Physical Requirements:

  • Operate keyboard/mouse, remain stationary, and lift up to 26 lbs.
  • Manual dexterity for typing/writing.
  • Ability to work in moderate noise levels.
