Job Description

Work at Home Bilingual Cree-English Phone Interpreter

Position: Cree Interpreter

Location: Remote in the United States

Pay: $1.25 - $1.40 per minute, depending on call time and interpretation level.

Position Overview

The Cree Telephone Interpreter handles on-demand calls, translating conversations between Cree and English speakers. This role involves breaking communication barriers across sectors like healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel, hospitality, law enforcement, and emergency services.

The interpreter must process information swiftly and accurately, respecting cultural differences and maintaining professionalism and courtesy at all times. The role may involve technical or sensitive topics, requiring discretion and cultural sensitivity.

This position involves verbal interpretation only; written translation is not required, though linguistic skills are encouraged.

This is a remote position. A quiet, secure workspace is essential.

Essential Job Functions

• Promptly respond to interpreting sessions, maintaining professionalism.
• Accurately convey meanings and concepts according to interpretation protocols.
• Speak clearly, with proper pronunciation and politeness.
• Maintain professionalism and composure, especially in emergency situations.
• Be punctual and available during scheduled hours.
• Follow client instructions and protocols, avoiding unauthorized interactions with LEP individuals.
• Understand industry-specific terminology and protocols.
• Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and adaptability.
• Remain calm during emotionally charged or stressful calls, which may be lengthy or high-volume.

Qualifications

• Fluency in Cree and English, with cultural understanding.
• Ability to assess regional and accent differences.
• Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
• Ability to stay neutral and objective, handling sensitive topics with discretion.
• Preferred: education or experience in language-related fields.
• Adaptability to technological updates.
• Minimum age: 18 years.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. without future visa sponsorship.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Reading and writing skills in requested languages are highly preferred.

Additional Requirements

Post-offer background checks and drug screening may be required based on location.

Technical Requirements:

• Dedicated device for work (computer, tablet, or smartphone).
• High-speed internet (minimum 5 Mbps download, 3 Mbps upload).
• Quiet workspace free from background noise.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to operate a keyboard and mouse, remain stationary, and lift up to 26 lbs.
