Estimator - Preconstruction Lead (Commercial GC)

Job summary

Jobot is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our permanent preconstruction team in the Boston market. You’ll own complete cost estimates for commercial GC projects, work with subcontractors and vendors, and partner with project managers to deliver competitive bids.

Qualifications include 5+ years in construction estimating, strong math and IT skills, and proficiency with estimating software and MS Office. A related degree is preferred and negotiation skills are essential.

Qualifications

• A minimum of 5+ years of experience in construction estimating or a similar role.
• Experience in project bidding, budgeting, value engineering, MTO, negotiation, and cost analysis.
• Strong mathematical and IT abilities with a keen eye for detail.
• Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred.
• Professional certification in construction estimating or related field is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing accurate cost estimates for construction projects to aid in bidding and budgeting.
• Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and architects to understand project requirements and timelines.
• Perform detailed analysis of project designs and specifications to determine overall project costs.
• Leverage expertise in Material Take Off (MTO) to accurately calculate the quantity of materials needed for each project.
• Conduct regular cost analysis and value engineering exercises to identify potential cost-saving opportunities and efficiencies.
• Participate in the negotiation process with contractors and suppliers to secure the best prices and terms.
• Continually monitor industry trends and prices to ensure the company is getting the best prices on supplies and services.
• Prepare and present detailed reports and project estimates to stakeholders, including potential clients, project managers, and senior leadership.
• Maintain a comprehensive database of updated project costs and relevant market information.
• Ensure compliance with company standards and procedures in all estimating activities.
