Job summary

Kevin Edward in the Bay Area seeks an experienced Estimator to join its Preconstruction team. You will take projects from bid review through estimating, budgeting, value engineering and buyout, collaborating with owners, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.

The role requires 2–3+ years estimating experience, a Construction Management or related degree, and strong cost, scheduling and risk analysis, with excellent reading of plans and communicative teamwork.

Qualifications

• 2–3+ years of estimating experience, preferably with a general contractor.
• Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of estimating, contracts, scheduling and project planning.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and construction documents.
• Understanding of construction costs, materials, manpower and subcontractor pricing.
• Ability to identify and evaluate project risks.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to collaborate across preconstruction and operations teams.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate bid opportunities and project documents.
• Prepare detailed estimates, budgets and proposals.
• Perform accurate quantity take-offs and cost analysis.
• Develop trade scopes, bid packages and subcontractor bid lists.
• Solicit, evaluate and level subcontractor bids.
• Lead pre-bid meetings and coordinate with trade partners.
• Participate in design development, client and project team meetings.
• Present budgets and value engineering recommendations to owners and design teams.
• Conduct jobsite visits and review existing conditions.
• Support constructability reviews and project planning.
• Develop preliminary project schedules and site logistics plans.
• Work with Project Executives, Project Managers and Superintendents to transition projects from preconstruction into operations.
• Support project buyout and subcontract execution.
• Maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors and other stakeholders.
• Contribute to development and mentoring of junior project team members.
