Job summary

emerysapp is seeking an Estimating Intern to join our team in a part-time student role during May–August. You will work alongside experienced estimators, review plans and specs, and help prepare cost estimates for construction projects.

This on-site internship offers hands-on learning, exposure to estimating software such as InEight and Planswift, and opportunities to develop skills in takeoffs, bid proposals, and collaboration across departments while balancing academic commitments.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a university program (engineering, construction management, or related field).
• Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
• Basic knowledge of construction or estimating concepts is a plus.
• Punctuality and reliability are essential.
• Familiarity with estimating software (InEight, HeavyBid, HCSS, Bid2Win, Planswift, Bluebeam) is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with cost estimates by reviewing project plans, specifications, and other documents to determine scope of work and costs.
• Bid proposal support by preparing takeoffs and detailed estimates under supervision.
• Cross-team collaboration with other departments to ensure estimates are accurate and complete.
• Cost monitoring by tracking and analyzing project costs and flagging potential overruns.
• Communicate regularly with crew members, subcontractors, and team members to support project schedules and budgets.
• Follow safety protocols and wear required PPE when performing site visits.
• Learn on-the-job estimating skills and gain exposure to estimating software.
