Job summary

Spire Solutions, a subsidiary of The Weitz Company, is seeking an Estimator II – Electrical in Des Moines, IA. You will support the estimating team by preparing portions of electrical estimates, handling quantity surveying, pricing, bid solicitation, and cost history with interface to the job cost system.

Ideal candidates have 2+ years in construction estimating with electrical experience preferred, strong math, analytical skills, and excellent communication.

Qualifications

• 2+ years experience as an estimator in construction
• Electrical estimates experience preferred
• Degree in a construction-related field desired

Responsibilities

• Read and analyze plans/specifications and reflect requirements in the estimate
• Produce complete quantity surveys and documentation
• Generate design development estimates with quantities from plans
• Develop project quantities from schematic plans and elevations
• Solicit sub and vendor quotes and communicate scope
• Ensure full trade coverage and flag gaps
• Prepare bid-day spreadsheets and detailed proposal tabs
• Project pricing using historical data and adjust for conditions
• Review proposals to identify gaps/overlaps
• Prepare final estimate for costing system rollover
• Create cost reports with value analysis opportunities

Spire Solutions is hiring an Estimator II – Electrical to join our team in Des Moines, IA! The Estimator II will support the estimating team by preparing complete portions of an electrical estimate for construction projects. This role will provide quantity surveying, pricing, bid solicitation, compile cost history, and preparing system comparisons. What You’ll Do

• Read and analyze technical plans/specifications and assist team by incorporating those requirements in the estimate
• Produce reliable, complete, consistent, well-documented, and timely quantity surveys of assigned items
• Generate design development estimates, providing quantities and components based on incomplete plans and specifications.
• Assist in the development of complete project quantities based upon schematic level plans and elevations
• Conduct organized sub and vendor solicitation while accurately communicating the required scope of work
• Ensure complete trade coverage is obtained and advise project lead of potential solicitation shortfalls
• Assist in the preparation of bid-day spreadsheets and detailed proposal tabulation sheets (Bid Tickets), including any custom client cost breakdown/schedule of values
• Assist in projecting pricing based on historical data and adjusting pricing as needed to allow for project conditions
• Review trade proposals and scope letters as received to identify gaps and overlaps in scope of work
• Prepare the final estimate for rollover to the job cost accounting system, adjusted to meet project team's needs for cost management
• Prepare cost analysis reports and be mindful of value analysis opportunities throughout the estimating process

What We’re Looking For

• Experience:
  • 2+ years of experience as an estimator in the construction industry
  • Experience with electrical estimates is highly preferred
  • Degree in a construction-related field is desired
• Skills:
