Job summary

MSS Solutions, LLC is seeking an Estimator to prepare accurate cost estimates and proposals for construction projects in North Carolina. You will review plans and requirements, manage vendor pricing, and participate in the bid process from start to finish.

You will collaborate with the Estimating team and other departments to ensure accurate cost forecasts through the project lifecycle, while identifying risks and opportunities for value engineering.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or 3–5 years related construction industry experience
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Must be able to obtain NC/SC Security License
  • Background check and drug test required
  • Physical demands include lifting up to 25 lbs occasionally

Responsibilities

  • Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates and proposals for construction projects
  • Review project plans, specs and customer requirements for compliance and completeness
  • Participate in the bid process from start to finish including pricing from suppliers and subs
  • Maintain and update current pricing information for products, services and labor
  • Prepare detailed cost reports for stakeholders
  • Receive and compile scopes of work and cost proposals from trade partners and subs
  • Descope and compare cost/scope for proposals
  • Assist Estimation Manager with vendor RFQs, takeoffs, and scope reviews
  • Collaborate with Estimating team and other departments for cost forecasts
  • Identify risks and cost-saving opportunities with project management
  • Attend kickoff meetings for handoff from Estimating to Project Management
  • Attend site visits and client meetings to understand requirements and value engineering
  • Develop quantity take-offs and sub-con pricing including production rates
  • Other duties as assigned by MSS Solutions, LLC

Job description

Role and Responsibilities
  • Prepare accurate and timely cost estimates and proposals for various construction projects.
  • Review project plans, specifications, and all other customer requirements to ensure compliance and completeness.
  • Participate in the bid process from start to finish, including obtaining pricing from suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Maintain and update current pricing information for products, services, and labor.
  • Prepare detailed cost reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Receive and compile scopes of work and cost proposals from trade partners, vendors, and sub-contractors.
  • Descope trade partners, vendors, and sub-contractors and develop a cost and scope comparison for each proposal.
  • Assist Estimation Manager with delegated tasks such as vendor RFQs, takeoffs, scope reviews, etc.
  • Work closely with the Estimating team and other departments to ensure accurate project cost forecasts throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with the project management team to identify potential risks and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Participate in project kickoff meetings to ensure proper handoff from Estimating to Project Management.
  • Attend site visits and meetings with clients to better understand project requirements and identify value engineering opportunities.
  • Develop and review quantity take-offs as well as sub-contract pricing, including scope and application of production rates.
  • Other such duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Company from time to time.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, or related field; or 3-5 years related construction industry experience and/or training.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel.
  • Ability to work well independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Must be able to obtain an NC/SC Security License.
  • Physical Demands: Constant sitting, walking short distances, bending, stooping, twisting, reaching above and/or below shoulder, handling/grasping documents or office equipment, clear speaking and adequate hearing sufficient to communicate effectively and respond appropriately in-person and/or on the telephone, vision sufficient to read source materials and computer screen data, repetitive motions for computer equipment use, lift 25 lbs. occasionally, 5-10 lbs frequently to lift/carry/move objects, files and documents.
  • Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Must successfully pass a background check & drug test.

Work Environment: Work is performed in an office environment with air conditioning and bright lights.
