Job summary

Jobot is seeking an Estimator - Construction in Virginia Beach to analyze drawings, specifications, and proposals to develop time, cost, and labor estimates for government contracting projects. Qualifications

  • 5-7+ years of experience in general construction contractor estimating.
  • Government contracting experience preferred.
  • Strong read of construction drawings and documents; means & methods knowledge.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze drawings, specs, proposals to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates.
  • Prepare estimates for vendor/subcontractor selection.
  • Review material and labor requirements for cost-effectiveness.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements for project duration.
  • Assess cost effectiveness and track costs vs. bids as project develops.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, and foremen to discuss estimates and resolve issues.
  • Develop standard hour and cost data; identify cost reduction opportunities.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, and subcontractors on estimate changes.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for planning and scheduling.

Salary: $95,000 - $120,000 per year

Responsibilities
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, proposals, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates for products, projects, or services, applying knowledge of specialized methodologies, techniques, principles, or processes.
  • Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors or subcontractors.
  • Review material and labor requirements to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce or purchase components.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project.
  • Assess cost effectiveness of products, projects or services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Conduct special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or to effect cost reduction.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling work.
Qualifications
  • 5-7+ years of experience and knowledge of general construction contractor estimating.
  • Government Contracting preferred.
  • Proven experience with construction estimating, means & methods, accounting, document organization, and ability to read/understand all types of construction drawings and documents.
  • Ability to do quantity take-offs is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, with a willingness to pick up the phone and talk to subcontractors, foster relationships.
  • Some periodic travel for site visits may be required.
  • Must be able to obtain DBIDS.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, with a high level of accuracy in calculations and attention to detail.
  • Proficient with MS Office Word, Excel. Experience with estimating software is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field is preferred.
