This contract-to-hire role requires strong GD&T knowledge, CNC/machining experience, and precise data entry. You will collaborate with engineering, production, and purchasing to optimize costs and ensure quotes reflect reality and market conditions.
The Estimator plays a key role in analyzing engineering documentation and developing accurate, competitive cost estimates for aerospace components. This position focuses on reviewing models and blueprints, calculating material and machining costs, and using ERP/MRP systems and spreadsheets to prepare detailed quotes that support precision manufacturing operations.
Review engineering models, blueprints, and requests for quotation (RFQs) for aerospace components to understand technical requirements and scope of work.
Interpret drawings and specifications using a strong understanding of GD&T and blueprint reading to determine manufacturing processes and tolerances.
Calculate material costs for aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and specialty alloys based on quantity, grade, and market pricing.
Estimate machining setups, including fixturing, tooling, and workholding requirements for CNC and precision manufacturing operations.
Determine multi-axis milling cycle times and machining hours needed to produce parts to specification.
Estimate tooling requirements, outside processing, and subcontracted services such as heat treatment, coating, or special finishing.
Utilize ERP/MRP systems and spreadsheets to build detailed, competitive quotes and cost breakdowns.
Enter, maintain, and update estimation data accurately in spreadsheets and internal systems.
Perform data entry and verification to ensure all cost elements are captured and documented correctly.
Collaborate with engineering, production, and purchasing teams to validate assumptions and refine estimates.
Apply strong math and analytical skills to compare alternatives and optimize cost and process efficiency.
Maintain high attention to detail to ensure accuracy, consistency, and completeness in all estimates and documentation.
Experience with CNC machining, precision manufacturing, or aerospace engineering.
Strong understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) and blueprint reading.
Solid math and analytical skills for calculating material usage, cycle times, and overall project costs.
Proficiency with computer spreadsheets, particularly Excel, for building and managing cost estimates.
Demonstrated ability in estimation and bidding within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
High attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing technical documents and entering data.
Ability to work with ERP/MRP systems to support quoting and manufacturing planning processes.
Experience as a manufacturing estimator or in a similar cost estimation role.
Advanced Excel skills, including formulas, data organization, and spreadsheet-based analysis.
Comfort working with data entry and maintaining organized, well-structured records.
Familiarity with aerospace materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and specialty alloys.
Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams in engineering and manufacturing.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple RFQs and estimates simultaneously.
Join a precision-focused manufacturing environment where technical expertise and analytical thinking are highly valued. You will contribute directly to competitive quoting and business growth while working with advanced aerospace components and modern systems. The organization supports collaboration across engineering and production, offers opportunities to deepen your skills in estimation and manufacturing processes, and promotes a culture of accuracy, continuous improvement, and professional development.
This role operates in a professional manufacturing and engineering setting that focuses on precision aerospace components. You will work extensively with engineering models, blueprints, and technical documentation, using ERP/MRP systems and Excel-based spreadsheets on a daily basis. The environment emphasizes accuracy, detailed analysis, and close collaboration with engineering and production teams. Work is primarily office-based within a manufacturing facility, with regular interaction with shop-floor personnel and access to machining and production areas as needed to understand processes and validate estimates.
