Job summary

Grunley Construction Company, Inc. in Rockville, MD seeks an Estimator to work with the Director of Estimating on competitive design-bid-build and design-build bids.

You will write scopes, perform takeoffs, and coordinate with subcontractors across Divisions 4-14. Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Architecture/Construction Management with at least 3 years in the AEC field, strong Excel/Word skills, and solid math, communication, and construction document reading abilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Engineering, Architecture or Construction Management required.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience in the Architecture, Engineering and Construction field.
• Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
• Must have extensive knowledge of the construction industry and strong communication, organizational and math skills.
• Ability to read and understand construction documents and provide constructability input into estimating and bidding.

Responsibilities

• Review project documents and develop subcontractor scopes of work for multiple projects.
• Coordinate with subcontractors to review scope, answer questions, problem solve, negotiate, and ensure coverage for each project.
• Perform quantity take-offs, summarize quantities in estimate file, and draft pricing for self-perform work.
• Attend project site visits and pre-proposal meetings.
• Analytically review project documents to develop RFIs and identify scope gaps and omissions.
• Attend industry networking events and subcontractor meetings to develop relationships.
• Coordinate with the estimating team to ensure proper scoping and coordination among trades.
• Prepare for bid days by attending reviews and coordinating with subcontractors.

The Estimator will work closely with the Director of Estimating and the Estimating department on competitive design-bid-build and design-build bids. The Estimator will be responsible for writing scopes, performing takeoff, and managing scope/communication with subcontractors associated with Divisions 4-14.

Requirements

• Experience using construction software such as Procore, Blue Beam and Building Connected
• Experience in the Metro Washington DC area

Summary

• Coordinate with subcontractors to review scope, answer questions, problem solve, negotiate, and ensure proper coverage for each project.
• Perform quantity take-offs, summarize quantities in estimate file, and draft pricing for self-perform work.
• Attend project site visits and pre-proposal meetings.
• Analytically review project documents to develop well-written RFIs and identify potential scope gaps and design omissions.
• Attend industry networking events, subcontractor networking events, and individual subcontractor office visits / lunch meetings to develop and maintain relationships.
• Coordinate with the estimating team to ensure each project is properly scoped and coordinated among all trades.
• Prepare for bid days by attending review meetings, preparing y-sheets, reviewing proposals and coordinating with subcontractors. Review scopes with all subcontractors prior to bid day.

The salary range for this role will be $75,000.00-$125,000.00.
