Job summary

SMS group USA seeks a cost estimator to collaborate with Plant Management and the Sales Team to estimate job costs, prepare quotations, and route jobs within the workshop. You will use bid specifications, drawings, and historical data to build accurate cost analyses.

Responsibilities include determining materials, tooling, freight, outside services, and man-hours, then entering data into the system to track quotes and open jobs for won quotes. MS Word/Excel proficiency is required.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret detail drawings, technical specifications, and production orders.
• Strong mechanical background.
• Experience with DIN specs is a plus.
• Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
• Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
• Creative problem-solving and adaptability in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Estimate job costs using bid specs, drawings, and data.
• Prepare accurate cost analyses including material, freight, subcontractor, and man-hours.
• Prepare and send quote documents to customers.
• Enter quote data into GSS for tracking purposes.
• Enter router information into GSS.
• Open jobs for won quotes.
• Program CNC machines to optimize productivity and quality.
• Monitor machine programs and identify opportunities to improve processes.
• Track job performance and monitor deviations from quoted times and costs.

What You’ll Do

• Estimate job costs using customer bid specifications, detail drawings, historical data, and other information prepare accurate job cost analysis including:
• Determine work scope, tools, and equipment requirements
• Raw Material Costs
• Freight Costs
• Outside Service and Sub-Contractor Costs
• Machine Cycle Times
• Fabrication Man-hours
• Inspection Man-hours
• Assembly Man-hours
• Prepare and send quote documents to customers
• Enter quote data into GSS for tracking purposes
• Enter router information into GSS
• Open Jobs for “won” quotes
• Program CNC Machines to optimize productivity and quality
• Monitor performance of machine programs and evaluate opportunities to improve processes.
• Track job performance and monitor for deviations from quoted times and costs.

What you’ll need

• Proficient in reading and interpreting detail drawings, technical specifications, and production orders
• Good mechanical background
• Experience working with DIN Spec Standards is a plus
• Good computer skills and proficiency in MS Word and Excel
• Good organizational skills
• Good interpersonal and communications skills
• Creativity and problem-solving abilities
