Job summary

FlatironDragados is seeking an Estimator to support the bidding process by analyzing specifications, plans, and historical data to produce accurate, cost-conscious estimates for construction projects in the United States. The role requires collaboration with the pursuit team to balance scope, schedule, and price.

The ideal candidate has 1+ years of estimating experience in construction, a working knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid, and developing technical writing skills.

Qualifications

• 1+ years of experience in construction estimating or cost control.
• Developing technical writing skills for report generation and documentation.
• Beginner knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software.

Responsibilities

• Review proposal specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of the estimate.
• Incorporate historical data from PO's, subcontract reports, and productivity analyses into unit and man-hour figures.
• Provide technical input on project risks and review final estimate to ensure alignment with schedule and cost goals.
• Perform complete takeoffs and calculate material quantities from drawings.
• Monitor client addenda and advise estimating team on changes during the estimate period.
• Assist with design review options and recommend cost-effective solutions.
• Collaborate with the estimating team to hand off projects between pursuit and project management teams.
• Research vendors and subcontractors to meet pursuit and cost goals.

Overview

play a crucial role in preparing project estimates by analyzing specifications and contract plans to ensure cost-effective quantities and construction methods align with pursuit, schedule and price goals.

What you will be doing

• Reviews proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.

• Reviews and incorporates historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and person-hour figures.

• Provides technical input regarding project and contract risks to lead estimator responsible for final bid price approval. Reviews final estimate to ensure defined work aligns with overall project schedule and cost goals.

• Prepares discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work. Calculates material quantity requirements from engineering drawing dimensions.

• Monitors client addendum and advises the estimating team on changes during the estimate period.

• Assists with design review options and recommends best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.

• Partners with estimating team to prepare and conduct project hand-off meetings between pursuit team and project management team.
• Researches and recommends vendors and subcontractors for designated scopes of work to achieve pursuit and cost goals.

What we are looking for

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field required.

• 1+ years of experience in construction industry, estimating or cost control preferred.

• Beginner knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software

• Developing technical writing skills.
