Job summary

FlatironDragados is seeking an experienced Estimator to prepare project estimates by analyzing specifications and contract plans to ensure cost-effective quantities and methods align with pursuit, schedule and price goals.

Interpreting drawings, reviewing historical data, and providing risk input are essential. You will coordinate with the team to finalize bids and support hand-offs to project management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or related field is required.
• 3+ years of experience in construction estimating or cost control are preferred.
• Knowledge of HCSS Heavy Bid Estimating Software is desirable.
• Strong technical writing skills are needed to document estimates and assumptions.
• Growing knowledge of alternative construction delivery methods is encouraged.

Responsibilities

• Reviews proposal specifications and drawings; attends pre-bid meetings to determine scope and contents of the estimate.
• Incorporates historical data from PO's, subcontracts, and productivity reports into unit and hour figures.
• Provides technical input on project risks to lead estimator; reviews final estimate against schedule and cost goals.
• Prepares discipline estimates by taking off scope of work and computing material quantities from drawings.
• Monitors client addenda and advises estimating team on changes during the estimate period.
• Assists with design review options and recommends cost-effective solutions.
• Partners with estimating team to prepare project hand-off meetings between pursuit and project management.
• Researches vendors and subcontractors to meet pursuit and cost goals.

What You Will Be Doing

• Reviews proposal specifications, drawings, attend pre-bid meetings, etc. to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
• Reviews and incorporates historical data from purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc. into unit and person-hour figures.
• Provides technical input regarding project and contract risks to lead estimator responsible for final bid price approval. Reviews final estimate to ensure defined work aligns with overall project schedule and cost goals.
• Prepares discipline estimates by calculating complete takeoff of scope of work. Calculates material quantity requirements from engineering drawing dimensions.
• Monitors client addendum and advises the estimating team on changes during the estimate period.
• Assists with design review options and recommends best solution based on cost, engineering quality, or availability of materials.
• Partners with estimating team to prepare and conduct project hand-off meetings between pursuit team and project management team.
• Researches and recommends vendors and subcontractors for designated scopes of work to achieve pursuit and cost goals.

What We Are Looking For
