Job summary

Hodess is seeking an Estimator to review bid documents, prepare detailed cleanroom construction estimates, and develop bid proposals. You will interpret drawings, write project scopes of work, and coordinate with the Project Team to ensure complete scopes of work.

Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the role involves budgeting, bids, and pricing, with responsibilities from pre-bid to contract award and supplier negotiations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • 5+ years in project management or estimating in construction.
  • CFSP test within first 3 years of employment.
  • OSHA 30 certification.
  • Proficient with MS Office and construction management software.
  • Salary commensurate with education, experience and market.

Responsibilities

  • Review bid documents and request pricing for detailed estimates and bid proposals.
  • Prepare budgets, bids and rates; interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Solicit pricing from vendors and subcontractors; perform take-offs.

Reporting to the Chief Estimator, the Estimator will be responsible for reviewing bid documents and requesting pricing for the purpose of preparing detailed cleanroom construction estimates and bid proposals. This position is responsible for the preparation of budgets, bids, and rates. This position will interpret drawings, blueprints, and specifications, solicit contractors, perform take-offs, write project scopes of work, and then communicate the project needs to the Project Team and technicians ensuring their understanding and the completeness of the scopes of work.

Major Areas Of Responsibilities
  • Request, review, and evaluate bid package.
  • Attend pre-bid meetings or walk-throughs as necessary.
  • Analyze drawings and other construction documents to prepare time, cost, materials, and labor estimates.
  • Solicit and review pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
  • Ability to provide value-engineering options as necessary.
  • Compile estimates and detailed bid proposals.
  • Follow-up timely on bids submitted.
  • Attend scope reviews meetings to discuss scope of work with general contractors and have ability to sell.
  • Knowledge of Hodess construction capabilities and project experience.
  • Upon receipt of a contract, review scope of work and schedule.
  • Coordinate with Project Manager, Project Coordinator and Contract Administrator.
  • Participate in kick-off meeting to transition job to Project Coordinator and Project Manager.
  • Assist with vendor negotiations.
  • Build strong positive relationships with customers, vendors, and company personnel.
  • Research questions as they arise.
  • Keep up with product and vendor discount knowledge.
  • Help to maintain a directory of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
  • Increase bid win percentage, bid revenue, and gross profit on jobs year after year.
  • Build relationships with General Contractors, Consultants, and Architects in order to build a book of business.
  • RFI/RFP process.
  • Addendums.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Interior Design, Engineering, Finance, or related discipline
  • 5+ years Project Management or Estimating role in the construction industry
  • Must complete CFSP Test within first 3 years of employment
  • OSHA 30
  • Ability to work with MS Office, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc. and construction management software.
  • Salary is commensurate of education, years of experience, and market

  • Strong understanding of construction operations and strategy and ability to make a practical application to realistic schedules.
  • Strong knowledge of construction practices, activities, and principles.
  • Ability to organize multiple tasks concurrently.
