Job summary

Boston Public Schools seeks an exceptional English as a Second Language and Special Education/Moderate Disabilities Teacher to join a community dedicated to high achievement, equity, and innovation. This long-term substitute position supports ELL and students with moderate disabilities, reporting to the Principal/Head of School.

Start date is 09/08/2026 with end date 04/16/2027. The role emphasizes collaboration with classroom teachers, adherence to WIDA standards, and ongoing professional

Qualifications

  • Hold a Bachelor's degree.
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in ESL at the appropriate grade level.
  • Hold a valid Massachusetts Teaching License in Moderate Disabilities at the appropriate grade level.
  • Complete state and federal guidelines to be fully licensed and Highly Qualified.
  • Ability to meet the Standards of Effective Teaching as outlined by Boston Public Schools.
  • Current authorization to work in the United States by the first day of employment.
  • Able to model excellent spoken and written English for students learning English in school.
  • Experience teaching in an urban setting (preferred).
  • BPS values linguistic diversity and welcomes candidates fluent in languages other than English (preferred).
  • In order to best serve all students, certification in the subject area and one or both of: Moderate Disabilities, ESL (at appropriate grade levels) is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach English as a Second Language to Multilingual Learners identified as English Learners.
  • Collaborate with content teachers to align instruction for English language development and classroom needs.
  • Coordinate with instructional leadership to ensure language support for ELL students.
  • Assist with ACCESS administration and ELL transition meetings.
  • Deliver lessons aligned to WIDA standards for varying English proficiency levels.
  • Demonstrate culturally proficient instructional practices and integrate technology for learning.
  • Support administration with required state and local assessments for ELL students.
