Opportunity Details

• Title: ESL Class Volunteer
• Location: Virtual, via Zoom
• Start Date: Spring 2025, as soon as possible
• Duration: 4 months, with potential extension

Role Overview

The ESL Volunteer will support refugees and local immigrants by providing English language instruction. Volunteers will collaborate closely with the IRC-LA Adult Education Program Supervisor.

Responsibilities

• Lead weekly ESL classes, including instruction and facilitation
• Available on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10am-12pm PST
• Available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am-12pm PST or 5:30-7:30pm PST
• Available on Fridays from 10am-12pm PST
• Use provided curriculum, PowerPoint presentations, flashcards, and other materials
• Coordinate with IRC-LA staff
• Respond to student needs within the scope of the class
• Work closely with the Adult Education Team to support students

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Spanish and/or Armenian is a plus but not required
• Bachelor’s in English or Master’s in TESOL preferred

Minimum Requirements

• Comfort with teaching online via Zoom
• Knowledge of the Remind platform
• Availability during scheduled class times
• Passion for education and ability to adapt to diverse learning needs
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Willingness to learn about the IRC mission and adhere to policies
