Job description

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to the world's worst humanitarian crises, helping to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, the IRC is one of the world's largest international humanitarian non-governmental organizations (INGO), operating in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities. IRC employees deliver lasting impact by restoring safety, dignity, and hope to millions. If you're a solutions-driven, passionate change-maker, join us in positively impacting lives worldwide.

Background

The IRC helps people affected by humanitarian crises—including the climate crisis—to survive, recover, and rebuild. Established in 1933, the IRC now works in over 50 crisis-affected countries and communities across Europe and the Americas.

This fully remote Private Funds Prospecting Volunteer will support Resettlement, Asylum, and Integration (RAI) in the U.S., which has 29 offices. RAI-US provides services such as resettlement, mental health, employment, workforce development, ESL, and immigration, including support for foreign-born survivors of crime and trafficking. Private resource development is crucial to sustain these services and enhance community welcome and integration. Creative strategies and new pathways for private fundraising are essential to meet this critical need.

This role will work with the RAM team, which supports RAI-US grants, development, and volunteer management across U.S. offices, focusing on engaging private resources to meet client needs.

We seek a skilled volunteer with prospecting experience to identify and inventory private funding opportunities across U.S. geographies, helping secure funding for IRC services. Reporting to the RAM Development Director, this role will have a national scope and contribute to ongoing efforts to support refugees and immigrants.

Responsibilities
  1. Research and assess private funding opportunities in regions with IRC offices.
  2. Use IRC databases (Salesforce) to check for existing funding or donor relationships.
  3. Identify local private funding sources, including foundations, corporations, and high-net-worth individuals, providing context for local development teams.
  4. Research public funding streams available locally and application procedures.
  5. Coordinate closely with the RAM Development Director.
Skills & Competencies
  • Experience in prospect research and private fundraising.
  • Effective communicator demonstrating IRC's collaborative work approach.
  • Digitally savvy, innovative, and able to work independently.
  • Curious, flexible, and systems-oriented thinker.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; capable of learning digital outreach tools.
Working Environment
  • Fully remote; volunteer must provide their own equipment.
  • Dedicated workspace required.
  • Position contingent upon successful background check at no cost to the volunteer.

IRC is an Equal Opportunity Employer, considering all applicants based on merit without discrimination based on race, sex, color, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability, or other protected characteristics.
