Job description

The Escheat Analyst is responsible for unclaimed property compliance activities across Opportune’s client base. This role plays a key part in analyzing, managing, and resolving unclaimed property matters, including due diligence, reporting, owner communications, and system maintenance. The Analyst will collaborate closely with internal teams and clients to ensure accurate, timely, and compliant handling of unclaimed property obligations across multiple jurisdictions, while leading assigned client projects and workstreams independently.

This position can be based in either the Houston or Tulsa office and will serve as a key member of Opportune’s Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) Escheat Compliance Services team, contributing to client service delivery, process consistency, and overall operational success. Responsibilities will include the following:

  • Maintain end-to-end ownership of unclaimed property cases and assigned workstreams, including monitoring, research, workflow progression, and resolution to support timely remittance to owners
  • Analyze, investigate, and resolve client and interest owner inquiries, issues, and disputes, collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders as needed
  • Examine title instruments pertaining to transfers of interest (deeds, assignments, conveyances, trusts, probate documents, etc.) and communicate relevant findings to the Division Order team
  • Execute due diligence activities, including preparing owner due diligence letters in accordance with applicable state requirements and performing quality control reviews to ensure accuracy and compliance
  • Set up and update data in Opportune’s systems based on due diligence and client instruction, ensuring accuracy and completeness
  • Support and execute unclaimed property reporting and remittance processes across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with state requirements and adherence to all internal and external deadlines
  • Support and participate in state unclaimed property (escheatment) audits as needed, including gathering documentation, responding to inquiries, and coordinating with clients and internal teams to ensure timely and accurate resolution
  • Provide guidance to onboarding and prospective clients on unclaimed property processes, and best practices, to support informed decision-making and effective compliance
  • Support intra-department collaboration by assisting with additional tasks, projects, and initiatives as needed to ensure overall team success and operational efficiency

Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the oil and gas industry, with exposure to Land, Division Orders, or Accounting functions.
  • Experience in client service environments, with the ability to effectively support and communicate with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with various software applications, including ERP systems, land systems, Microsoft Office, M-Files, and Salesforce
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Effective time management, organizational, and multi-tasking abilities, with the flexibility to adapt to changing priorities
  • Initiative-taker with the ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment
