Job summary

Comal Independent School District is seeking a substitute tutor to assist students in mastering academic curriculum in a tutorial setting. The role involves tutoring individuals or small groups, coordinating with classroom staff, and maintaining records of progress.

The candidate should have a high school diploma or GED; a bachelor’s degree is preferred and a Texas teaching certificate is preferred. Fingerprinting is required and orientation attendance is expected.

Responsibilities

• Tutor and work with individual students or groups in assigned subject(s).
• Address weaknesses identified from STAAR/EOC tests and other assessments.
• Maintain an orderly work area.
• Keep records of student progress, behavior, attendance.
• Maintain strict student confidentiality.
• Keep supervisor informed of special needs or problems.
• Communicate with teachers regarding students’ progress.
• Provide a positive, calm, and consistent learning environment.
• Assist with timesheets and required reports.
• Uphold school rules and district policies.
• Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
• Be a positive role model for students.

Experience / Other Requirements

• Some experience working with students is preferred.


• Fingerprinting is required.


• Attend substitute teacher orientation.

Major Responsibilities And Duties

• Tutor and work with individual students or groups in assigned subject(s).


• Work with classroom teacher and/or campus administration to address areas of weakness as identified from previous STAAR/EOC testing, benchmark classroom exams, and other formative and summative measures.


• Maintain an orderly work area.


• Keep records of student progress as needed, such as behavior, grades, attendance.


• Maintain strict student confidentiality.


• Keep supervisor informed of special needs or problems of individual students.


• Communicate with teachers regarding students’ academic progress and/or needs as per request of supervisor.


• Provide a positive, calm, and consistent learning environment for students.


• Communicate with students in a positive and encouraging way.


• Help keep administrative records and help prepare required reports, including accurate records of time worked (timesheets).


• Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.


• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.


• Maintain a professional relationship with campus staff.


• Be a positive role model for students.
