Job summary

Comal Independent School District is seeking a substitute tutor to support student mastery of the academic curriculum in a tutoring setting. You will work with individual students or small groups and collaborate with classroom teachers to address areas of weakness identified through STAAR/EOC and other assessments.

Maintain an organized, confidential learning environment, collect records on student progress, and uphold school policies.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
• Texas Teaching Certificate preferred.
• Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
• Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Some experience working with students preferred.
• Fingerprinting is required.
• Attend substitute teacher orientation.

Responsibilities

• Tutor individuals or groups in assigned subject(s).
• Collaborate with teachers and campus administration to address weaknesses identified from STAAR/EOC and assessments.
• Maintain an orderly work area.
• Keep records of student progress (behavior, grades, attendance).
• Maintain student confidentiality.
• Inform supervisor of special needs or problems of individual students.
• Communicate with teachers regarding students’ progress and needs as requested.
• Provide a positive, calm, and consistent learning environment.
• Keep timesheets and prepare required reports.

Major Responsibilities And Duties

• Tutor and work with individual students or groups in assigned subject(s).


• Work with classroom teacher and/or campus administration to address areas of weakness as identified from previous STAAR/EOC testing, benchmark classroom exams, and other formative and summative measures.


• Maintain an orderly work area.


• Keep records of student progress as needed, such as behavior, grades, attendance.


• Maintain strict student confidentiality.


• Keep supervisor informed of special needs or problems of individual students.


• Communicate with teachers regarding students’ academic progress and/or needs as per request of supervisor.


• Provide a positive, calm, and consistent learning environment for students.


• Communicate with students in a positive and encouraging way.


• Help keep administrative records and help prepare required reports, including accurate records of time worked (timesheets).


• Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and state and local board policy.


• Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.


• Maintain a professional relationship with campus staff.


• Be a positive role model for students.
