Job summary

Central States Funds/TeamCare is seeking an attorney to support employee benefit plans, ERISA compliance, and trust administration. You will perform legal research, draft documents, and advise internal departments on regulatory matters under supervision of senior attorneys.

The role offers opportunities in federal litigation, regulatory interpretation, and collaboration across departments, with a path for a recent law graduate or early-career attorney to develop expertise in employee benefits

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
• Licensed to practice law and in good standing in Illinois, or eligible to obtain licensure after hire.
• ERISA-related litigation experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Represent the Funds in federal litigation, including contributions, benefits, withdrawal liability, bankruptcy, and ERISA-related matters.
• Conduct all phases of litigation: pre-litigation negotiations, discovery, depositions, hearings, trials, and appeals.
• Draft pleadings, motions, briefs, legal opinions, and other legal documents with clarity and precision.
• Handle post-judgment collection matters and settlement negotiations.
• Provide advice and legal guidance to Fund personnel on administrative, compliance and regulatory matters.
• Assist in interpreting and applying ERISA, the Internal Revenue Code, HIPAA, COBRA, and other applicable laws and regulations.
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legal trends, case law, and regulations affecting the Funds.
• Help maintain legal records and assist with document management and regulatory filings.
• Participate in special projects and perform other legal duties as assigned.
• Support the preparation of materials for Board of Trustees meetings and committee meetings.
