Job summary

Gusto is seeking a Retirement Compliance Specialist in Denver to act as the ERISA expert for 401(k) plan administration. You will translate complex requirements into actionable guidance for Sales, Conversion Ops, and Customer Experience teams, while ensuring compliance across plans.

The role emphasizes quality assurance, training, and collaboration with Legal & Compliance, with a strong focus on using AI tools to improve efficiency in plan setup and review.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of IRS and ERISA regulations governing retirement plans.
• Experience reviewing Adoption Agreements and plan provisions.
• Ability to translate complex ERISA concepts into operational guidance.
• Experience building training materials for non-specialist teams.
• Comfort using AI-assisted tools in plan review and setup.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the ERISA/compliance escalation point for complex plan provisions and Adoption Agreement interpretation.
• Own end-to-end quality assurance for the plan review process and develop internal tooling and rules.
• Conduct plan reviews for new and converting 401(k) plans and translate legal docs into actionable guidance.
• Build and deliver internal training and reference materials for internal teams.
• Partner with Legal & Compliance on regulatory interpretation and sign-off for high-risk changes.
• Identify opportunities to use AI and automation to reduce manual review time while maintaining accuracy.
