Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in NE Portland (Hollywood) is seeking an experienced Veterinary Assistant for their busy emergency department. Pay ranges from $25 to $37 per hour, with Kahuna leveling for experience.

Schedule includes Thursday, Friday, Saturday and every other Wednesday, 6:30am–4:30pm, with shift differentials based on hours. Responsibilities include triaging emergencies, assisting DVM, diagnostics, ICU/ward setup, client communication, and medication administration.

BluePearl Pet Hospital is seeking a knowledgeable and experience Veterinary Assistant to join their fast-paced emergency department in NE Portland (Hollywood)!

Pay: $25 - $37 / hour

Pay is dependent on experience and is determined by the Kahuna leveling system.

Schedule: Thursday, Friday, Saturday & every other Wednesday 6:30am - 4:30pm

Shift Differentials *based on a 4-hour minimum:

  • Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = $3.50 Shift Differential
  • Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = $5.00 Shift Differential
  • Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = $3.50 Shift Differential

Our Veterinary Assistants triage emergency cases as they come in and assist DVM with crafting and going overestimates as needed. In addition, they perform diagnostics (radiographs, labwork , etc ), setting patients up in ICU or Inpatient ward, discharging patients, and handling client communication.

As an Emergency Veterinary Assistant , you will:
  • Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
  • Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
  • Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
  • Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
  • Perform phlebotomy.
  • Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and effort.
  • Possess a working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with patients assigned ASA I or II classifications.
  • Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and demonstrates proficiency in designated role as assigned by attending clinician and/or supervisor.
