Job summary

UofL Health is seeking an Emergency Department Tech/Unit Coordinator to support clinical care under the direction of a RN in a busy ED. The role involves phlebotomy, EKG lead placement, patient transport, and assisting with trauma care and respiratory functions.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, and preferred CNA/CMA/EMT training or nursing fundamentals coursework; BLS certification is required to practice safely in this environment.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED/equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a recognized Clinical Assistant, Medical Assistant or EMT Training Program, or Nursing Students who have completed Fundamentals of Nursing Course from an accredited school of nursing (preferred).
  • Certification as CNA, CMA or EMT (preferred).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) (required).

Responsibilities

  • Measures and documents intake and output, vital signs.
  • Performs phlebotomy and 12-lead EKG testing under RN direction.
  • Assists with patient mobility, hygiene, and personal care.
  • Transports patients and specimens; supports trauma care and procedures.
  • Transcribes and enters physician orders and coordinates with care team.
  • Performs safety checks and maintains equipment per infection control policies.
