Job summary

Duke University Health System's Duke Health Lake Norman Hospital in Mooresville, North Carolina, is seeking a patient care team member to assist medical and nursing staff in examination, treatment and care of patients. Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of NCA I training or EMT training.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.

Responsibilities

• Participate in personal care interventions to patients of all ages under the direction of nursing staff, provide meal tray preparation, feeding, recording intake and output, bathing, shaving, changing clothing, cleaning and trimming fingernails, bed-making, assisting with ambulation, enemas, skin care, and bowel and bladder elimination; provide such additional care as required to meet the personal needs and comfort of assigned patients.
• Perform CPR. Function as patient attendant for patients identified as high risk for harm to self or others and safety concerns.
• Prepare patients, equipment and supplies for specific procedures and provide manual assistance as required.
• Collect, deliver and conduct routine tests on patient specimens.
• Escort or transport patients that do not require any hemodynamic monitoring.
• Clean assigned area; stock and replenish supplies and equipment as required.
• Maintain "readiness" of HAZMAT Room.
• Provide assistance during hazmat decontamination procedures.
• Perform a variety of EKG technician tasks as required, including routine and STAT EKGs, order verification and electronic transmission of EKGs, accommodation of special EKG requests, e.g., magnet or right-sided tracings, stocking and maintenance of EKG machines, and retrieval of old EKGs.
• Perform a variety of Health Unit Coordinator (EDUC) tasks.
• Tasks might include, but are not limited to, operate and troubleshoot office equipment; maintain organization of the assigned desk; manage lab specimens and orders; answer the telephone and/or patient call bells.
• Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
