Job summary

The ER Tech position at Trinity Health Livingston Hospital supports direct patient care in a busy 24/7 Emergency Department, assisting with ADLs and creating a safe, caring environment for patients and families.

Under RN supervision, the ER Tech helps with measurements, specimen collection, IVs, and documentation while ensuring readiness for examinations and treatments. A HS diploma and direct care exposure or relevant coursework are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Minimum of one year of direct care experience or completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

Responsibilities

• Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success.
• Assist patients with ADLs: bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation with assistive devices, feeding and menu selection.
• Collect and send specimens including blood and blood cultures; insert and remove peripheral IV catheters; document patient information as required.
• Services include 24-hour ED, inpatient/outpatient services and multiple procedures.
• ED operates 24/7 to care for a wide range of conditions.

Position Purpose

The ER Tech, under the direction of a registered nurse, is responsible for direct patient care considering age specific, developmental, cultural and spiritual needs. They assist in establishing and maintaining a patient care environment that is clean, safe and conducive to patient/family wellbeing including concepts of relationship-based care.

Required Education / Licensure

• High school diploma or GED
• Minimum of one year of previous direct care experience (acute or long term) or successful completion of CENA, PCT, MA, or EMT course.
• Student nurses must have completed their nursing fundamentals class of a BSN program.

What You Will Do

• Training is provided to prepare our colleagues for success.
• The ER Tech assists patient in completing ADLs including: Bathing, showering, toileting, positioning, turning, transferring, ambulation using assistive devices and with feeding and menu selection.
• An ER Tech will collect and send specimens including blood and blood cultures and inserts and removes peripheral IV catheters. They are responsible to record patient information and required data in appropriate areas in order to meet documentation requirements.
• Services include an award-winning 24-hour emergency department, inpatient and outpatient surgery, including joint replacement, a variety of diagnostic and outpatient services and over 300 physicians serving patients.
• Trinity Health Livingston Hospital's Emergency Department (ED) is available 24-hours a day, 365 days a year to care for minor illnesses/injuries, as well as major life-threatening, traumatic, medical and surgical problems.
