Job summary

St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston, TX seeks an experienced Registered Nurse for the Emergency Department to provide triage, assessment, and acute care. This PRN day shift (6:30a–7p) position may rotate weekends and requires strong patient education and collaboration with the medical team.

Qualifications

• Licensed as a Registered Nurse in Texas.
• Current BLS, ACLS, PALS, and TNCC certifications.
• Ability to communicate effectively in English (verbal and written).
• Preferred: Emergency Room experience and Bachelor’s degree progression toward BSN.

Responsibilities

• Triages, assesses, and prioritizes patients on arrival using ED protocols.
• Performs primary/secondary assessments for trauma and cardiac symptoms.
• Manages pain control and supports age-appropriate care from infant to elderly.
• Educates patients and caregivers on home care, medication use, and follow-up steps.
• Ensures patient safety and adherence to HIPAA and hospital policies.
• collaborates with the care team to implement and evaluate the patient care plan.
• Maintains stroke-specific education and participates in ongoing competency activities.
