Job summary

SSM Health St. Clare Hospital in Fenton, MO, seeks a Student Nurse Extern (PRN) for the Emergency Department.

You will gain hands-on clinical experience alongside experienced nurses and a dedicated preceptor, applying classroom knowledge in real-world patient care settings. This transitional role supports nursing students in exploring specialties and building confidence for an RN position with SSM after program completion.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in an accredited school of nursing and completion of first clinical rotation, or no more than 90‑days post conferral date
• No experience required

Responsibilities

• Completes patient care tasks under direction of RN.
• Answers patients’ calls for help, takes vital signs, and monitors patient condition.
• Assists with activities of daily living and comfort measures.
• Assists and performs procedures such as dressing changes, catheter care, and specimen collection.
• Establishes a compassionate environment with timely responses and emotional support.
• Relays information via charting and communicates with the nursing team.
• Prepares patients for discharge when indicated.
