Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is seeking a Nurse Aide II for Emergency Department on a full-time day shift (7 am–7 pm) with alternating weekends. Under RN supervision, you will assist nursing and medical staff to provide care, comfort and safety to patients.

This role involves observing patients, assisting with daily living activities, reporting changes, taking vitals, preparing equipment, and supporting patient flow. You will participate in orientation and uphold infection control standards.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required.
• BLS certification (AHA) and first aid training.
• De-escalation training required.
• EMT certificate or prior hospital/sub-acute experience or nursing student.

Responsibilities

• Observe the patient and relay information and any changes to the appropriate nursing personnel.
• Assist the patient in activities of daily living – nourishment, ambulation, personal hygiene and toileting.
• Provides direct nursing care to patients by performing such tasks as vital signs/weight, baths, Foley catheter care.
• Under the direction of the RN, demonstrate proper turning and positioning of patient and report alterations to the RN.
• Distributes patient nourishment; assists with feeding; documents intake.
• Maintains and coordinates patient flow into examination areas; ensures safety.
• Responds to emergencies as needed under RN direction, including CPR and patient movement.
• Implement measures to minimize patient discomfort within 5–15 minutes of request.
• Properly identifies patients for specimen collection and labels specimens correctly.
