Job summary

NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk is seeking a Nurse Aide II for the Emergency Department on a full-time night shift. The role supports nurses and physicians by delivering essential patient care, performing routine tasks, and ensuring safety and comfort for ED patients.

Under supervision, you will assist with daily living activities, monitor patient conditions, and help maintain clean, well-stocked care areas while contributing to a cooperative team environment.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED required; BLS certification (AHA) and first aid training.
• De-escalation training on the job.
• EMT certificate or prior hospital experience or nursing student status.
• Strong interpersonal, customer service and telephone skills.
• Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Commitment to patient safety and infection control.

Responsibilities

• Observes the patient and relays information and any changes to the appropriate nursing personnel.
• Observes the patient and reports any reaction or change in condition to the nurse in a timely manner.
• Assists the patient in activities of daily living - nourishment, ambulation, personal hygiene and toileting. Adapts care to meet individual needs.
• Provides direct nursing care by performing vital signs/weight, baths, Foley catheter care and enemas as per policy.
• Under RN direction, demonstrates turning and positioning to maintain skin integrity and reports alterations.
• Distributes nourishment; assists with feeding; documents intake.
• Maintains patient flow into examination areas and demonstrates initiative.
• Responds to emergencies as needed under RN direction, including CPR and moving patients.
• Implements measures to minimize patient discomfort within 5–15 minutes of request.
• Accurately collects and labels specimens and ensures proper identification bracelet usage.
• Processes specimens for transportation and analysis per procedures.
• Prepares patients for examinations and ensures valuables are logged.
• Keeps treatment areas stocked and equipment functional for patient care.
• Demonstrates asepsis techniques for equipment preparation, cleaning and setup.
• Ensures patient safety with restraints and transfer/discharge assistance.
• Responds to patient calls and escalates appropriately.
• Participates in infection control by proper disposal of needles and wastes.
• Informs patients about what to expect during ED stay and addresses questions.
• Maintains professional decorum in all interactions with patients and families.
• Takes ownership of patient/staff interactions and pursues service recovery when issues arise.
