Job summary

Jefferies is seeking a Data Scientist within the Equity Research Data Strategy Team. You will support Analysts and build data/AI tooling to enable scalable, defensible research insights.

You'll transform large datasets, develop AI agents, and collaborate with data vendors and stakeholders across the firm to ensure AI-ready data assets and governance while communicating complex concepts clearly.

Qualifications

• Transferable experience on the sell-side or buy-side, in data science, data research, or similar function.
• STEM degree with preference for CS, Data Science, Engineering, Statistics or Quantitative Finance.
• Strong proficiency with Python, intermediate SQL and/or Spark.
• Experience analyzing and visualizing large datasets.
• Experience with AI-assisted development and LangChain/LLMs.
• Familiarity with LLMs, vector databases and RAG pipelines.
• Excellent communication skills to explain complex concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Query, transform, analyze, and combine large datasets in support of research ideas; occasionally develop statistical models.
• Enhance platform with tools, AI agents, MCP servers, and processes to standardize data evaluation and dissemination.
• Contribute to data centralization to ensure AI-accessible first- and third-party assets with governance.
• Present technical methods to non-technical stakeholders and translate questions into data-driven insights.
• Maintain relationships with research teams, data vendors, management, and buy-side clients.
