Job summary

Washington State Patrol is seeking an Equipment Technician to inspect police fleet vehicles and equipment, diagnose problems, and perform major and preventive maintenance to keep vehicles safe and operational throughout their life cycle. You will work with a team of specialists and interact with vehicle custodians and supervisors to ensure timely repairs.

The Property Management Division (PMD) is responsible for providing comprehensive facilities management through the capital and operating budget process. The Property Management Division falls within the Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau and consists of three sections, the Facilities Section, the Fleet Section, and the Supply Section.

This position inspects vehicles and equipment and diagnoses problems requiring repair. This position makes major and minor repairs, and performs preventative maintenance on all types of police fleet vehicles and equipment ensuring the equipment is safe and operational through its life cycle of use by Washington State Patrol employees. Every division and district in the agency relies on the Fleet Section for safe, reliable vehicles in order to carry out their public safety services. This position works with one Procurement Supply Specialist 2, one Procurement Supply Specialist 1, multiple Equipment Technician 3’s, and many police agency employees throughout Washington State. This is a customer service position. This position interacts with vehicle custodians, supervisors, vendors, and procurement specialists to diagnose problems and repair vehicles and equipment.

Our new teammate will be able to:

• Inspects diagnoses and makes necessary repairs and/or adjustments to police vehicles and equipment.
• Completes major engine overhauls and diagnoses, oil changes, tune ups and complete brake system overhauls. Repairs and/or replaces tires and wheels, transmissions and differential gears.
• Repairs and maintains steering and suspension systems.
• Repairs, equips and performs preventative maintenance on motorcycles utilizing training as needed.
• Analyzes and repairs and/or replaces electrical components and equipment.
• Repairs, equips, and performs preventative maintenance on a fleet of vehicles.
• Uses a computer to enter and maintain vehicle records and work orders.
• Make field inspections of equipment. Communicates needs for vehicle repairs with vehicle custodians and supervisors.
