Job summary

Scientific Protein Laboratories (SPL) near Madison, WI, seeks an Equipment Specialist to maintain manufacturing, utility and process equipment in a cGMP environment. You will inspect, troubleshoot, perform preventive maintenance, calibrations, and document activities while collaborating with maintenance, engineering and QA teams.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED with at least 3 years in industrial maintenance, knowledge of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, HVAC, and ability

  • Minimum 3 years of maintenance or equipment support in manufacturing/pharma/related industry.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation or HVAC systems.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to read equipment manuals, work instructions and schematics.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine inspections, startup activities and operational checks on manufacturing and utility equipment.
  • Monitor equipment performance and identify issues requiring corrective action.
  • Troubleshoot and repair production support and utility equipment within skill level.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance following established schedules and procedures.
  • Assist with calibration, adjustment and testing for proper operation.
  • Support maintenance and operation of plant utilities (boilers, HVAC, water systems).
  • Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of process equipment, including freeze dryers.
  • Perform basic electrical, mechanical, piping and instrumentation maintenance tasks.
  • Document maintenance, repairs, inspections and equipment performance data.
  • Follow SOPs, GMP and safety requirements; collaborate with teams to resolve issues.

For over 40 years, SPL specializes in the development and cGMP compliant manufacturing of Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs). SPL has an exciting opportunity to join the team as an Equipment Specialist.Under general supervision, our Equipment Specialist is responsible for the operation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of manufacturing, utility, and production support equipment. The incumbent assists in ensuring equipment reliability, minimizes downtime, and supports safe and compliant operations within a regulated manufacturing environment. The Equipment Specialist performs routine maintenance activities, responds to equipment issues, and works with senior maintenance personnel on more complex repairs and projects.**Responsibilities:*** Perform routine inspections, startup activities, and operational checks on manufacturing and utility equipment.* Monitor equipment performance and identify issues requiring corrective action.* Troubleshoot and perform repairs on production support and utility equipment within established skill level.* Conduct preventive maintenance activities according to established schedules and procedures.* Assist with equipment calibration, adjustment, and testing to ensure proper operation.* Support maintenance and operation of plant utility systems, including boilers, HVAC systems, water systems, and related equipment.* Assist with troubleshooting and maintenance of process equipment, including freeze dryers and other manufacturing equipment.* Perform basic electrical, mechanical, piping, and instrumentation maintenance tasks.* Document maintenance activities, repairs, inspections, and equipment performance data accurately.* Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and safety requirements.* Collaborate with Manufacturing, Engineering, Validation, and Maintenance personnel to resolve equipment-related issues.* Escalate complex equipment malfunctions to senior technicians or supervisors as needed.* Participate in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and operational efficiency.* Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.**Job Requirements and Qualifications****Required:**This position is open to candidates with a range of relevant experience levels. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications are encouraged to apply. Final job level and compensation will be determined based on the selected candidate's education, experience, skills, and overall qualifications.* High school diploma or GED.* Minimum of 3 years of maintenance or equipment support experience in manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food processing, chemical, or related industrial environment.* Basic knowledge of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, or HVAC systems.* Experience performing preventive maintenance, calibration and equipment troubleshooting.* Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, work instructions, schematics, and technical drawings.* Working knowledge of boilers, PW/WFI systems, solvent recovery systems, plant peptone concentration system, and other plant utilities.* Basic understanding of industrial control systems and instrumentation.* Strong problem-solving and organizational skills.* Ability to work independently and as part of a team.**Preferred:*** Technical training in Industrial Maintenance, Mechanical Systems, HVAC, Electrical Technology, Instrumentation, or related field.* Experience supporting utility systems, process equipment, or production support equipment.* Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).* Minimum of 5+ years of maintenance or equipment support experience in manufacturing, pharmaceutical, food processing, chemical, or related industrial environment.* Knowledge of GMP and industrial safety practices.Our employees are our success!
