Job summary

Sims Metal (Sims) is seeking a material handler to operate a grapple/magnet, front end loader and forklift to unload customers and load trailers for transport of scrap materials. The role includes inspecting incoming material and grading accordingly.

The ideal candidate has 3–5 years of heavy equipment experience, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to read and understand English. Safety and environmental standards are essential, and a pre-employment physical and drug screen are

Qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of experience operating heavy equipment.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  • Must be able to comfortably wear a respirator.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, procedures, correspondence, & memos.
  • Ability to speak and understand English.
  • Adhere to Metals Recycling Health, Safety, and Environmental standards.
  • Provides a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload customer’s trucks/vehicles.
  • Performs routine maintenance on loader such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.
  • Completes inspection report prior to using equipment.
  • Perform and maintain general housekeeping.
  • Responsible for customer and employee safety in and around work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Summary:

Operates material handler (grapple/magnet), front end loader and forklift to assist unloading customers and load trailers to prepare for transport of scrap materials. Inspects incoming material and grades accordingly.

Operates straight or articulated rubber-tired tractor type vehicle equipped with front mounted hydraulic powered bucket or forks to lift and transport bulk material to and from storage or processing areas.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Load and unload customer’s trucks/vehicles.
  • Performs routine maintenance on loader such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.
  • Completes inspection report prior to using equipment.
  • Perform and maintain general housekeeping.
  • Responsible for customer and employee safety in and around work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
