Job summary

Sims Metal in Tulsa, OK is seeking an experienced Heavy Equipment Operator to load and unload materials and prepare trailers for transport. You will operate loaders, forklifts, and related machinery, performing routine maintenance and inspections to ensure safe, efficient operations.

The role requires 3–5 years of heavy equipment experience, a high school diploma or GED, and the ability to pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen.

Qualifications

  • Must pass pre-employment physical and drug screen.
  • Must be able to comfortably wear a respirator.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, procedures, correspondence, & memos.
  • Ability to speak and understand English.

Responsibilities

  • Load and unload customer’s trucks/vehicles.
  • Starts engine, shift gears, presses pedals, and turns steering wheel to operate loader.
  • Performs routine maintenance on loader such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.
  • Completes inspection report prior to using equipment.
  • Perform & maintain general housekeeping.
  • Responsible for customer & employee safety in and around work area.

Job Summary

Operates material handler (grapple/magnet), front end loader, skid steer, or forklift to assist unloading customers and load trailers to prepare for transport of scrap materials. Inspects incoming material and grades accordingly.

Primary Responsibilities

Operates straight or articulated rubber‑tired tractor type vehicle equipped with front mounted hydraulic powered bucket or forks to lift and transport bulk material to and from storage or processing areas by performing the following duties:

  • Load and unload customer’s trucks/vehicles.
  • Starts engine, shift gears, presses pedals, and turns steering wheel to operate loader.
  • Performs routine maintenance on loader such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.
  • Completes inspection report prior to using equipment.
  • Perform & maintain general housekeeping.
  • Responsible for customer & employee safety in and around work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
