Job summary

The City of Hampton is seeking an Equipment Operator IV in Drainage Maintenance. You will operate heavy equipment to repair storm sewer systems, clear blockages, haul materials, and maintain rights of way.

Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or GED, 3 years of relevant experience, valid driver’s license, and obtaining a Virginia CDL Class A within 180 days. The role may require long hours during emergencies and involves background checks and drug testing.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• Three years of full-time experience operating equipment or closely related work.
• Must pass background check; safety sensitive and subject to drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Operate one or more types of specialized heavy-duty equipment in construction, maintenance, and repair of public works infrastructure.
• Repair and replace storm water pipes, clean out blockages, and perform heavy ditch maintenance.
• Haul construction materials and maintain rights of way.
• Prevent property damage and mosquito breeding by eliminating storm water blockages during pre- and post-storm inspections.
