Job summary

The City of Altoona Public Works Department is currently hiring an Equipment Operator III. The role involves operating various highway equipment for digging, hauling, paving and excavation, as well as sweeping and grass cutting and assisting with snow and ice removal.

A valid State driver's license is required. Candidates should have a High School Diploma or equivalent, knowledge of hand tools and labor practices, and the ability to perform manual tasks under adverse conditions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Knowledge of hand tools and standard labor practices.
• Ability to perform manual tasks and labor under adverse conditions.
• Valid State driver’s license required.
• CDL license preferred; ability to obtain one within six months if needed.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with coworkers and supervisors.

Responsibilities

• Operate various City highway equipment for digging, hauling, paving and excavation.
• Perform sweeping, grass cutting, and related maintenance tasks.
• Assist with snow and ice removal and other seasonal duties.
