The County of Volusia is seeking an experienced Equipment Operator III for the Solid Waste Division. This position is located at the Tomoka Landfill in Port Orange, Florida, and involves operating heavy equipment for daily landfill operations. The candidate must be proficient in operating bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, landfill compactors, semi-trucks, and waste separation equipment.
Schedule: Four (4) 10-hour days, including potential Saturdays and holidays. Exposure to outdoor elements, fumes, dust, uneven ground, temperature variations, and humidity is expected. Overtime may be required, and schedules may change based on operational needs.
The hiring rate is $18.77 hourly, with an additional $1.50 per hour incentive for regular and overtime hours worked (not included in the base wage).
Completion of 8th grade and three years of experience in heavy equipment operation and maintenance. Must obtain and maintain a valid Florida CDL within six months of hire. A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may substitute minimum requirements.
Possession of a Florida CDL Class A and at least one year of experience operating landfill equipment, including bulldozers, excavators, loaders, and compactors. Familiarity with Solid Waste operational practices. A pre-employment skills test will be required.
Must be able to perform essential duties, including lifting up to 50 pounds, working outdoors in various weather conditions, and understanding operational instructions. The environment involves exposure to weather, fumes, noise, dust, and vibration. Basic reading, writing, and math skills are required.
