Job summary

Lower Colorado River Authority seeks an experienced Heavy Haul Driver in Austin, TX. This role goes beyond routine hauling, handling oversized/overweight loads and a variety of trailers across transmission construction, substations, power plants, dams, and water operations.

Responsibilities include safe load securement, inspections, and coordinating with Fleet and supervision to keep projects moving. A valid Texas Class A CDL and hands-on experience are required.

Qualifications

• One or more years of experience operating large equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes, excavators, cranes, tractor trailers or other machinery.
• Texas Class A commercial driver's license is required.

• Operate heavy trucks with 18-speed and 10-speed transmissions, rollback trucks and other specialized equipment.
• Transport oversized and overweight loads up to 250,000 pounds.
• Operate various trailers including lowboys, stretch floats, flatbeds, step decks and tankers.
• Safely haul, secure and position equipment such as excavators, dozers, cranes, transformers and substation gear.
• Haul and operate baffled tankers and transport materials such as diesel, kerosene, oil, acid and batteries when required.
• Perform required equipment inspections and coordinate maintenance with Fleet and supervision.

LCRA is looking for an expert Heavy Haul Driver to join our team! This is not your typical driving job. We drive and operate a wide range of heavy trucks, specialized trailers and equipment, while supporting transmission construction, substations, power plants, dams and water operations, and other LCRA facilities. How You’ll Contribute

• Operate heavy trucks with 18-speed and 10-speed transmissions, rollback trucks and other specialized equipment, following FMCSA, DOT, TxDOT, and LCRA safety requirements.
• Transport oversized and overweight loads, including permitted loads up to 250,000 pounds.
• Operate a variety of trailers including lowboys, stretch floats, flatbeds, step decks, tankers, frac tanks, pole trailers, and van trailers.
• Safely haul, secure and position equipment such as excavators, dozers, cranes, graders, scrapers, transformers, breakers, switchgear, and mobile substations.
• Haul and operate baffled tankers and transport materials such as diesel, kerosene, oil, acid, and batteries when required.
• Perform required equipment inspections and coordinate maintenance and repairs with Fleet and supervision.

How You’re Qualified

• One or more years of experience in operating large equipment, such as bulldozers, backhoes, excavators, cranes, tractor trailers, farm equipment or other machinery.
• Class A Texas commercial driver's license

How You’ll Stand Out

• Tanker endorsement and experience transporting bulk liquid.
• Knowledge of FMCSA, DOT, and TxDOT regulations.
• Experience working around substations, power plants, or other energized facilities.
• Ability to read load charts and determine appropriate equipment and setup requirements.
• Knowledge of materials and equipment used in transmission construction or maintenance.
• Basic computer skills, including email, word processing, and spreadsheets.
