Shelby County is seeking an Equipment Operator II in the Environmental Services Department to operate heavy machinery including tractors, backhoes, bulldozers and dump trucks in county facilities and grounds maintenance.
Responsibilities include transporting materials, performing routine equipment checks, maintaining logs of container transports, and ensuring safety and efficiency in all operations. A Class B CDL is required; Class A may be required within one year of hire.
The Equipment Operator II is a position within the Environmental Services Department that involves the operation of the following; tractor, backhoe, bulldozer, skid steer, excavator, garbage truck and other land maintenance machinery in the performance of construction and maintenance of county facilities and grounds, rights-of-ways, roads, ditches, and other county properties and infrastructure.
Work is mostly performed outdoors and subject to extreme weather conditions, exposure to fumes from exhaust on equipment, exposure to high noise levels and characteristics typical of a solid waste landfill.
Work is generally heavy in nature involving sitting, standing, bending, carrying, walking, and lifting, pushing and pulling up to 100 pounds. Exposure to extreme vibration during operation of equipment.
