Job summary

DuPage County's Division of Transportation is seeking an Equipment Operator II to perform maintenance and construction tasks using a variety of motor vehicles and heavy equipment. This role supports road and sewer line projects and requires possession of a valid Class A or B CDL with air brakes.

The position operates equipment such as pavers, loaders, and snow plows, participates in snow removal, and may act as lead worker.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment.
  • Valid Class A or B CDL with air brakes; must obtain within 6 months of hire/promotion.
  • Post-offer drug screen, physical, and background check required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a variety of motor vehicles and heavy equipment (e.g., paver, loader, skid steer, vactor, snow plow, wing plow, tractor).
  • Perform road and sewer line maintenance and construction; clean debris from roads.
  • Repair shoulders and right-of-ways; fill cracks and potholes to reduce safety hazards.
  • Operate equipment for snow removal and basic machinery maintenance.
  • Lead worker responsibilities and assist co-workers with assignments.

Hours: Monday-Friday 6:00a.m. – 2:30p.m. to include Overtime, On-Call as needed

Salary: $76,469.40 Annually

We are pleased to offer the current job opportunity for an Equipment Operator II position within the Division of Transportation.

This position is included in the Bargaining Unit of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 150.

This position is subject to drug and alcohol testing requirements of the United States Department of Transportation – Omnibus Transportation Employee Testing Act of 1991.

This position is eligible for our complete benefit package including medical, dental and vision insurance, flexible spending accounts, life insurance, pension, deferred compensation plan, tuition reimbursement, pre-paid legal and credit union. As a team member at DuPage County, you will also have access to time off with pay on Designated Holidays or holiday pay if required to work, Vacation time, Sick time and Personal days. Employees in this role receive 1 hour per day of on-call pay for November 1stthrough March 31st.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Operates a variety of motor vehicles and heavy equipment (e.g. paver, loader, skid steer loader, vactor, snow plow, wing plow, semi-tractor/trailer, tractor, sweeper, and backhoe) for performing maintenance and construction of roads and sewer lines
  • Cleans roads of debris
  • Repairs shoulders and right-of-ways
  • Fills in cracks and potholes to avoid safety hazards on roadways
  • Operates equipment for snow removal on roads
  • Performs basic maintenance and repairs on machinery and equipment
  • Acts as a lead worker and assists co-workers with their work assignments

REQUIREMENTS INCLUDE

Requirements include the following experience or equivalent combination of training and experience:

  • Completion of a High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma equivalent
  • Three (3) years of experience operating heavy equipment
  • A valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with an air brakes endorsement. A Class A CDL with air brakes is required within 6 months of hire or promotion.

A post offer drug screen is required.

A post offer physical is required.

A pre-employment background check is required.
